Welcome to The Lanner School Governors Page

Lanner School Governors

Lanner School has been an integral part of the village of Lanner since the original school was built in 1877 and run by the Gwenap School Board. It continues to be an important part of the local community and focuses on meeting the needs of all children to ensure that when they leave they are well equipped to succeed in all aspects of their lives.

The aim of the Governing Body is to support the school in moving forward from being a good school, in its last Ofsted inspection of March 2014, to an outstanding one. It is vitally important that we continue to be a welcoming, caring, supportive and friendly school for the children and for the staff. Each child’s emotional wellbeing is very important to us.

The Governing Body is made up of people drawn from the wider local community and from those directly connected to the school. There are 4 Parent Governors, 1 Teacher Governor, 1 Local Authority Governor, 2 Foundation Governors, 3 Co-opted Governors and Mrs Haddy Head Teacher (ex-officio).

The key principles of the Governing Body are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

  • Holding the Head teacher to account for all educational performance of the school and its pupils

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent

These functions are reflected in the regulations for maintained schools that came into force in September 2013. It is also the criteria used by Ofsted (Offices for Standards in Education) to judge the effectiveness of the Governors of the school.

The Governors meet at least six times a year, but also attend several other committee meetings to monitor various aspects of the school’s performance.

A Governors term of office is set at four years. Elections for a Parent Governor are held if there is more than one applicant when a vacancy occurs.
